Washi Tape Cupcake Toppers

I'm not sure why, but I find funfetti cake mix to be the best cake mix out there. Perhaps it has a lot to do with childhood memories but I can't resist funfetti cupcakes. So when I found myself walking through Target with a 4th of July party on the brain I couldn't help but gravitate toward the Stars & Stripes Funfetti Cake Mix. Everyone else seems to love them too so I knew they'd be a hit. In looking for cupcake liners and cupcake toppers to go with my cupcakes I decided I wanted something simple yet adorable which is when I decided to make Washi Tape Cupcake Toppers.

If you are really good you will think about Washi Tape before the day of your event and buy some really awesome pattern online. One thing I've learned about washi tape is it's not available in a lot of places so if you want something specific look early. Hobby Lobby has a small selection available so I went there in hopes that I would find a cute red polka dot. When I got there all I found was this red chevron which turned out to be perfect! The best part is the flag are super easy to make since all you need is washi tape, toothpicks and scissors. Yank off a piece of tape, fold it over the toothpick and cut to make the flag.

I just love the way these cupcakes turned out from top to bottom. I kept the liners a simple white so that you could see the red & blue sprinkles within the cake mix. We snuck in our own cupcakes before we left for the party so we knew we'd be sure to get one. Man I just love the way a funfetti cupcake tastes. As I sit here writing this post I want to go grab another batch to make for our party on Thursday.

Martha, I got this at Hobby Lobby. I've heard that Michael's also has some. Then there is an abundance of places online. I think I might stock up on some fun stuff for birthdays, etc.

This is such a cute and simple idea! I love it. I'll have to do this next time we make a finger food platter for a homeschool playdate. This would work well with fruits and veggies and cheese.... and cupcakes, of course. :)

Yes! And there are tons of fun washi tape options to make it fun for the kiddos or the adults! Now I want to go make some for some cheese or perhaps I just need an excuse to eat a bunch of cheese...

Well, cheese is like a free food if it's decorated, right? :)
